April in Alabama can be a busy time in the garden, but there are also a lot of events to enjoy.
- Friday April 4 11am-1pm at City Hall downtown, The City of Huntsville Operation Green Team will be giving away Better Boy tomato plants and burpless cucumber plants (exact variety is unknown to me right now), as well as Glad trash bags for Great American Clean Up and Beautification day on the 5th. I’ll be there at City Hall helping out with the plants and chatting with gardeners, so come say hello. More info at the city’s web page here (PDF link).
- Thursday April 10 – Sunday April 13, the Huntsville Botanical Gardens is having their annual spring plant sale. The selection, as always, looks to be spectacular, with herbs, native plants and lots of perennial and annual flowers. April 10th is reserved for members, but anyone can purchase plants the rest of the weekend. More info here.
- Saturday April 12 10am-2pm, The City of Huntsville Operation Green Team will be celebrating Earth Day at Hayes Nature Preserve. Recession Gardening will have a table and we’ll also be playing Mystery Vegetable for prizes, so bring the kids down (or just the young at heart). More info at the city’s web page here (PDF link).
