Spring brings lots of gardening events to the Huntsville area.  Get out and enjoy before the weather turns hot.

  • May 6th, 6pm, First Baptist Church on Governor’s Drive – City Planning Kickoff Event.  The City of Huntsville is launching a major project to update the city’s Long Range Plan.  This plan will guide city decisions over the coming decades, and community input is essential.  If you live, work or play in Huntsville, please get involved over the next 18 months at the community meetings.  Input at early meetings will dictate topics for more detailed discussions later.  I will be there advocating for regional food security and farm infrastructure, community gardens, urban farming, farmland conservation and other issues essential to local, sustainable and affordable food.  More information here.
  • May 9th – National Public Gardens Day.  To celebrate this day, the Huntsville Botanical Garden will be honoring coupons for free admission available at NationalPublicGardensDay.org.  Our local botanical garden is a great resource and a delightful place to visit.  If you aren’t a member or haven’t visited, this is your chance to check it out for free.
  • May 10th, 10am-2pm, Herb Garden at the Huntsville Botanical Garden – Huntsville Herb Society Herb Fest.  Ask your herb questions and look for plant giveaways.  Garden membership or admission is required.  Details here.
  • May 16th, 7pm, CASA Community Garden – A Night in the Garden.  Help raise funds for CASA of Madison County by enjoying local food and libations and live music.  Tickets are $75.  More information here.
  • May 24th, 9am-6pm, Demonstration Garden at the Huntsville Botanical Garden – Open House.  The Huntsville Botanical Garden hosts a demonstration vegetable garden for the Master Gardeners of North Alabama, which includes vegetable, small fruits, a small orchard and compost bins.  Viewing the garden is always available, but on May 24th the Master Gardeners will be there to answer questions and provide show and tell advice.  Garden membership or admission is required.  Details here.
  • May 24th, 10am-2pm, Harvest Feed Mill – Alabama Small Livestock Swap & Sale.  Vendors and customers welcome.  More information available here.
